Awakening to the Higher Awareness

Series 5—Broader Meditation Issues

April 14 - May 26

5 weekly sessions on Sundays
starting Sunday, April 7
at 7pm Israel / 12pm Eastern / 9am Pacific

Course Details

Most of us walk through life unconscious of ourselves and everyone around us. We speak to others without truly hearing them. We look but do not see the beauty in our world. Meditation is a potent tool that awakens us from this unconscious existence. It puts us in touch with our own being, teaches us to be present in the moment, and attunes us with the divine in everyone and everything.

Awakening to the Higher Awareness is an experiential program that focuses on understanding the inner changes that take place in our awareness during meditation. Its approach is based on teachings from Judaism as well as the mystical traditions of other faiths.

Rabbi Yoel will guide you through all the stages of the meditation process: from preparation (hakhanah) to intention (kavanah), to forge, to holding the inner contact (devekut), and onto the path toward union (yichud) with your supernal source. He will show you how to build an inner pathway in consciousness and guide you in becoming truly alive.

Broader Meditation Issues is the fifth series of the course and has 5 sessions.

Course Sessions

Every session is 2 hours long and includes teaching, meditation, breakout groups, practical exercises, textual study, and Q&A.

  1. Two Paths to the Supreme
Some of us are searching for a path to a personal God. Others do not believe in a personal Deity and are looking for another way to connect to the Higher Power. This session looks at the personal and impersonal paths of meditation and the similarities and differences between them.
  2. The Dynamics of Inner Experience
What happens when we enter into our inner reality? What takes place in our consciousness
when we meditate? This session explores the dynamics of the meditation process utilizing the teachings
of the sixteenth-century Kabbalist the Ari as our guide.
  3. The Psychic
This session investigates what happens when our meditation goes wrong. It explains how to identify when
we have entered into the lower realms and how to deal with the resulting consequences for our spiritual life.
  4. Individual versus Group Practice
We can meditate either on our own or in a larger group. There are distinct differences between the two experiences. This session outlines the advantages and disadvantages of each form of practice.
  5. Personal and Collective Evoultion    Is meditation a purely selfish indulgence or a noble endeavor? In our evolution as human beings and as souls, there is spiritual work we do as part of our individual journey, and there is also a greater mission in which we participate as part of a larger collective.

What our students are saying

"I am really enjoying the course... I am finding it essential for opening my consciousness to a world of existence that has in my case been obscured for too long by the relentless grind of the day-to-day. I am grateful to you for all your guidance, and will be eagerly looking forward to the next series."

John, Manchester

"Just a brief note to say thank you. With all that is happening in the world, and all that is not, I find that skepticism takes hold of me over the course of my week. Then Sunday evening comes, I join your class, meditate and learn, and my faith in that which exists beyond this small realm of ours is renewed. What a blessing."
